There are few facts known about Wallace Delois Wattles's life, but what is known is inspirational and impressive. Some say he was born during the Civil War, some say just after, but we know he was born an American in 1860. During his relatively brief life of faith and struggle, he experienced a great deal of what most of us would call 'failure'. Now, in hindsight, it is clear that in order to teach us how to climb out of lesser circumstances, he chose to undergo that trial himself.
That he did, mastering his thought and his practice of visualization to such an extent that he died well-off, able to provide for his family in the manner that became his ideal and his image. His inspirations ranged from Descartes and Spinoza to Swedenborg and Emerson, whose ideas he worked with as a foundation for his own solid, practical New Thought principles.
Wattle's books included Health Through New Thought and Fasting, The Science of Being Great, The Science of Being Well, and a novel, Hellfire Harrison. He is best known for his prosperity classic, The Science of Getting Rich.
